On April 7, 2009 Glenn Hagele and the Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance, filed a frivolous SLAPP lawsuit against 100 LASIK patients in an effort to silence their complaints on the internet about medical malpractice. On February 8, 2010, the court ordered the lawsuit to be dismissed with prejudice. This means that CRSQA can never again refile this lawsuit in an effort to intimidate and silence LASIK patients.

Patrick J. Mobley was hired by Glenn Hagele to perform illegal surveillance of LASIK patients, perform burglaries, steal bank account information, hack computers, and steal e-mails. Glenn Hagele is what is known as a cyberbully. When Glenn Hagele sees negative information about LASIK on the Internet he harasses, threatens, insults, and bullies the person who publishes it. Glenn Hagele has been kicked off LASIK patient bulletin boards for offending injured patients. Glenn Hagele threatened patients with baseless lawsuits in an attempt to intimidate and silence them. Filing frivilous lawsuits for the purpose of harassment and intimidation is a crime known as malicious prosecution.

Glenn Hagele has a pattern of harassing female patients at work. In one incident, he involved representatives of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). Glenn Hagele forwarded an altered version of The LASIK Report, an anonymously authored document, to a member of ASCRS executive committee. Based on information in the altered document supplied by Glenn Hagele, ASCRS contacted a damaged female LASIK patient's employer, attempting to cause problems for her at work. Read full story. The incident backfired on Glenn Hagele, and The LASIK Report gained wide circulation as a result of the scandal. Glenn Hagele threatened to publish the social security number of the patient and her elderly mother. View threat. Glenn Hagele falsely accused the female patient of publishing his bankruptcy, tax lien, and delinquent child support documents. Glenn Hagele defamed the patient and made false reports against her. Glenn Hagele attempted to interfere with the operation of websites that warn about LASIK risks, which the patient participates in. Glenn Hagele contacted her employer in an attempt to get her fired from her job. A judge denied Glenn Hagele's request for a permanent restraining order in a frivilous lawsuit against her. The patient is currently suing Glenn Hagele and CRSQA/USAEyes for defamation and unfair and deceptive trade practices.

One of Glenn Hagele's tactics is to tell half-truths or outright lies while withholding relevant information in order to misrepresent the facts. Glenn Hagele has used this tactic time after time, hoping to portray his LASIK patient adversaries in a negative light. This tactic doesn't work very well in a court of law where a judge hears both sides.

Glenn Hagele misrepresented the facts about a female patient whom he harassed at her place of employment. The version of the story Glenn Hagele tells skips the beginning when he falsely accused the female patient of publishing defamatory web pages about him, and had an attorney send her a threatening letter at her place of employment. Glenn Hagele published only the sections of the patient's response that he wants the public to see, which does not include how he defamed and insulted her, and made false accusations against her. Glenn Hagele doesn't report how he harassed her employer, and made statements in emails that sound like an extortion plan. Using the CRSQA organization name, Glenn Hagele continued contacting the patient's employer to cause problems for her at work. Glenn Hagele made a harassing phone call to the patient at home, and repeatedly harassed her. The most shocking part of this story is that Glenn Hagele knew all along that this patient did not publish a web page about him and his sham orgainzation, Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance (CRSQA). Glenn Hagele's long-time nemesis on the alt.lasik-eyes newsgroup was the target of much of Hagele's attacks. The female patient sought to warn the public about LASIK risks based on her personal experience and knowledge. Whenever she posted negative information about LASIK, Glenn Hagele attempted to discredit her. Glenn Hagele and his defenders on the newsgroup verbally abused and threatened her. Glenn Hagele investigated the patient and acquired personal information about her. Glenn Hagele threatened to publish her divorce records, business records, and dispute with a neighbor. View threat. Glenn Hagele threatened to publish her personal identification information, including her social security number, date of birth, address, and driver's license number. Glenn Hagele threatened to publish her husband's social security number. View threats. According to the female patient, Glenn Hagele filed a bogus claim against her homeowners insurance policy for defamation, which was denied. The patient also claims that Glenn Hagele told her that she should offer Glenn Hagele a monetary settlement in exchange for leaving her alone and not publishing her personal information on the Internet. The female patient stated that she spoke to legal counsel about suing Glenn Hagele for blackmail, harassment and intentional infliction of emotional distress on the part of herself and her husband. Details are sketchy, but apparently the patient agreed to some type of arrangement or agreement with Glenn Hagele to protect herself and her family from continued harassment and attacks. The female patient appears to have abandoned her efforts to warn patients about LASIK risks on the Internet.

Glenn Hagele harassed many other damaged LASIK patients. The harassment continues to this day.
